THORNTON, CO… Thornton Fire Department’s new Fire Marshal is now on the job. Stephanie Harpring comes to Thornton with 17 years’ experience. She has served as firefighter, paramedic, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Training Lieutenant, Captain, and Fire Marshal. Harpring is a strong proponent of education; she has a bachelor’s and master’s degree in criminal justice, a second master’s degree in public administration and is presently working toward a degree in fire protection engineering. Harpring is a certified peace officer, paramedic, fire investigator and fire inspector. “I am certainly impressed by Stephanie's leadership background and the vision she brings to her office and to the men and women at Thornton Fire," says Fire Chief Gordie Olson.
The Fire Marshal’s Office is a division within the Fire Department where the employees, under administrative direction, are responsible for coordinating and supervising the activities and operations of fire prevention and related programs such as community risk reduction (public education) and lead the fire investigation program. “My staff and I will continue a tradition of providing services related to the safety of Thornton residents,” says Harpring. “Those responsibilities include plans for fire alarm systems, fire sprinkler systems, building constructions, site utility, and various other plans to ensure that buildings have adequate access roads, sufficient water supplies and fire hydrants, and correctly designed fire protection systems.” Staff in the Fire Prevention Division also perform various inspections to ensure the proper installation and maintenance of fire protection systems, and to verify compliance with all codes and permit applications.
