Thornton and Colorado Wireless Communities (CWC)
Ten Colorado cities and counties have banded together to form the Colorado Wireless Communities initiative. Their goal is to make available to their citizens a low cost wireless broadband connection to the Internet across all the communities... In other words, a region-wide wireless network.
At present the CWC member communities are: Arvada, Boulder, Broomfield, Golden, Lakewood, Louisville, Northglenn, Superior, Thornton, and Wheat Ridge. With a present population of approximately 620,000, it represents nearly 15% of Colorado’s population, and covers approximately 197 square miles of the Colorado Front Range.
Thornton is proud to be a member of the CWC, and is excited about the potential it offers to its citizens and its city government to...
- Promote job, business and economic growth throughout the CWC region
- Provide a backup and contingency infrastructure for disaster response and recovery
- Enhance education by improving teacher/student interaction and enabling distance learning
- Improve efficiency of government services, including enhanced interoperable public safety communications
