As a service to Thornton residents, the City Development Department has partnered with Adams County and other agencies to offer home repair assistance to low-income residents, senior citizens and disabled people. Unless otherwise noted, the non-profits who provide home repair assistance, are not directly affiliated with the City of Thornton but are listed as a service to local residents.

Help for Homes Program

303-538-7587... The Help for Homes program is the City of Thornton�s year-round volunteer-based home improvement program. The programs targets low� and moderate-income senior citizen and disabled homeowners. Select homeowners are eligible to have minor repairs performed on their home, free of charge, thanks to funding allocated by the Thornton City Council, donations from local businesses, and the labor of volunteers. The Help for Homes program is funded by the City of Thornton and administered by a City contractor, BRI. To download an application, follow this link to... Help for Homes Application. Typical repairs may include wheelchair ramps, bathroom modifications for ADA accessibility such as widening of doors and installation of grab bars, painting, plumbing and electrical repairs, and other items that are structurally related to the home.

Housing Rehabilitation and Minor Home Repair Program

303-453-8500... The City of Thornton and Adams County collaborate to provide Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding for owner-occupied home repairs. The program is limited to low- and moderate-income residents who need repairs to improve the safety and health of their primary residence. Loan amounts and repayment plans vary. Minor Home Repair grants are also available for households with a single repair need.

Rebuilding Days

Rebuilding Days is part of the City�s new initiative to help citizens become more active in the Thornton community while performing repairs for low-income senior citizens and disabled people. This new initiative is part of the volunteer-based home improvement program and is coordinated through Rebuilding Together Metro Denver. Citizens can participate in two ways: nominate their home for repairs or volunteer their time to perform the repairs. Rebuilding Days is held on the last Saturday in April and the first Saturday in October. The goal of the program is to keep citizens �warm, safe, and dry�. Typical repairs may include wheelchair ramps, bathroom modifications for ADA accessibility such as widening of doors and installation of grab bars, painting, plumbing and electrical repairs, and other items that are structurally related to the home.

The Senior Solutions Program

303-426-4408... The Senior Solutions Program at The Senior Hub offers a referral network of low-cost providers of handyman services. All handyman have been interviewed and screened* by The Senior Hub and work at a low rate of about $20 per hour. They do a wide variety of services, including plumbing, electrical, painting, grab bar installation, yard work, etc. Subsidized home repairs are available to qualified low-income seniors, in which case The Senior Hub will pay the cost of repairs, including parts and labor. Subsidized repairs must be of an emergency or health/safety related nature. Weatherization Program

303-636-1982... Renters and homeowners who meet program requirements can qualify for free weatherization services such as attic and wall insulation, sealing of windows and doors, carbon monoxide tests on gas appliances and furnace maintenance. This program is a division of the Arapahoe County Housing and Community Development Services but serves residents in Adams County.
