Super Walmart at 128th Avenue and Quebec Street

Welcome. Use this Web page to keep current on the progress of the Quebec Riverdale Commercial Project. We will post news and events related to the project here as they occur. Construction of the Walmart is expected to take a little less than one year, with the store anticipated to open in June, 2010 subject to weather conditions and contractor performance.

 

Timeline — Updated 1/22/2010

Jan. 22, 2010 Xcel energy has been working on the site, relocating some of their electrical lines along 128th Avenue and prepping gas lines. The traffic signal at 128th Avenue and Quebec Street was put into full operation on Jan. 19, 2010. Work on the buildings continues, with water lines, roof installation and masonry around the outside. Storm drain inlets on the site continue to be constructed.
Dec. 1, 2009 Contractors continue to work on the building’s exterior walls and are setting steel for the roof. The water system has been installed and crews are beginning to import sub grade material for the parking lot and internal roads. Curbs and gutter construction may begin soon. Work continues on the retaining wall construction in back of the building. There also continues to be ongoing storm sewer construction. Electricians have begun installing light pole bases in parking lot and the installation of the traffic signal at 128th and Quebec has begun.
Oct. 21, 2009 The contractors have started the vertical construction. Steel columns are being erected throughout the building. Work continues on the storm sewer long the east side of the property. Foundation work continues as well. The median on Quebec street is being demolished to create the new entrance for the facilities. Work has also started in preparation for the installation of the retaining and sound wall on the north side of the property.
Sept. 29, 2009 Work continues on sanitary sewer lines and storm water structures. The first 6-inch sanitary sewer line was installed to the pad site and re-bar has been delivered for construction of the pad foundation. Steel framing for the building is scheduled to start on Oct. 19. Trucks continue to bring dirt to the site and the contractor is keeping a street sweeper operating to see that dirt tracking is kept to a minimum.
Sept. 15, 2009 All security fencing, erosion control devices, entry lot, and the construction trailer have been placed on the site. Wal-Mart has certified the erosion control and given the okay for Saunders Construction to fully mobilize and begin all phases of construction. All permits have been issued.

Construction of the storm sewer system on the south east portion of the property has begun. Delivery of water and sanitary sewer pipe to the site has begun as well. Dirt work is continuing as planned.
Sept. 2, 2009 The Building Permit is issued.
Aug. 14, 2009 The Construction Permit for site development is issued.
Aug. 11, 2009 The Civil Construction Drawings for the Wal-Mart project were approved. This approval was administrative in accordance with the City of Thornton Standards and Specifications and other applicable regulations.
Feb. 2007 Detailed architecture, site plans and landscaping requirements are approved.
  • The site will consist of a Super Wal-Mart with fueling station and several smaller pad sites which may include a small in-line retail facility, restaurants and at least one bank.
All reviews and approvals have been done in accordance with the City of Thornton Development Code and the laws of the State of Colorado. There are no discretionary approvals left to be made.
Nov. 1, 2005 The voters of the City of Thornton upheld the decision made by Thornton City Council.
Aug. 30, 2005 Thornton City Council refers their zoning decision to a vote of the people for the November ballot.
Aug. 30, 2005 The Quebec Riverdale Commercial Project, including a Super Wal-mart, located at the Northwest corner of 128th and Quebec is approved by Thornton City Council.
