THORNTON, CO… Thornton's new hybrid trash truck will be utilized in the daily City trash collection service. The truck is environmentally-friendly and more fuel-efficient compared to conventional trash trucks. This "green truck" uses hybrid-hydraulic technology to start and stop when performing stop-and-go trash pickup service. The truck uses less fuel and emits fewer harmful emissions.
This is only the second hybrid trash truck in service in Colorado. According to the manufacturer and data gathered from Denver, which has the other Colorado hybrid trash truck, the truck should get 25 percent better fuel economy than its non-hybrid counterparts. "We anticipate an annual reduction in fuel of about 1,400 gallons with the hybrid truck," says Thornton Environmental Services Manager Adam Lovato.
