Businesses of Thornton Advisory CommissionThe Businesses of Thornton Advisory Commission represents Thornton businesses and makes recommendations to City Council on issues impacting the ability of businesses to be successful in Thornton. The general purpose is to discuss and share both the challenges as well as the successes experienced by Thornton businesses. Applicants must be a business owner or manager. Building Code Advisory BoardThe Building Code Advisory Board hears and renders decisions on written appeals of decisions made by the Chief Building Official or Fire Chief pertaining to interpretation of City Building Codes. Membership consists of five individuals. Members must be qualified by experience and training pertaining to building construction and represent the following trades: engineering, architecture, building construction and design. Development Permits and Appeals BoardThe Development Permits and Appeals Board holds public hearings to receive testimony on applications for Development Permits and Variances to Chapter 18 of the City Code. Development Permits approve specific site layouts for property based on guidance provided through approvals of a Conceptual Site Plan by City Council. Election CommissionThe Election Commission makes ward reapportionment recommendations, assists with activities on Election Day, and establishes City election precincts along with other duties that may be set by City Council. During their term of office, members cannot be candidates or nominees for elective City office. Meetings will be held during the ward reapportionment process and as needed. Local Licensing AuthorityThe Local Licensing Authority reviews and acts on new business applications, transfer of ownership, renewals, request to modify the premises, etc. for 3.2% Beer and Liquor Licensed establishments. Parks and Open Space Advisory CommissionThe Parks and Open Space Advisory Commission makes recommendations to City Council regarding the updating of the Parks and Open Space Master Plan and projects to be funded from the proceeds of the open space and parks sales and use tax. Thornton Assistance Funds CommissionThe Thornton Assistance Fund Selection Commission is a seven-member citizen led advisory group that reviews the grant applications and provides funding recommendations to City Council. The residents are appointed through the following process: one member is appointed by the Mayor; one member from each of the four wards is appointed by the Council members from those wards and two at-large members appointed by Council as a whole: one representative with financial expertise, one representative with human services/nonprofit expertise. Thornton Revitalization Advisory BoardThe Thornton Revitalization Advisory Board provides recommendations to Council on the revitalization of Thornton's residential and business neighborhoods. TRAB formulates, recommends and updates the revitalization plan(s) and works on special projects assigned by City Council, as needed. The City is looking for members who are Thornton business or commercial property owners or residents with professional experience in redevelopment, architecture, land use planning or the legal or financial aspects of redevelopment. |
