Join us for "A Musical Journey Through Time and Place,” presented by the Thornton Community Band. The journey begins March 1 at the Skyview High School Auditorium (8990 York Street, Thornton CO 80229) at 7:30 p.m.. Admission is free.
Times and places include:
- Stalinist Russia-"Symphony Number 5" by Dmitri Shostakovich;
- Renaissance England-"The Earle Of Oxfords Marche" from the "William Byrd Suite" by Gordon Jacob;
- England in the early 1900s-"First Suite in Eb" by Gustav Holst;
- The United States during World War 2- "Big Band Spectacular" a medley of "In the Mood," "Satin Doll," "Ciribiribin," and "Jumpin at The Woodside";
- France in the late 1880s -"Pavane" by Gabriel Faure;
- The United States in the early 1920s- "The Gallant Seventh" by John Philip Sousa;
- Beethoven's Vienna-"Concertino" by Carl Maria von Weber. This piece features Jeremy Reynolds playing the solo clarinet. Mr. Reynolds is currently a member of the faculty of the Lamont School of Music at the University of Denver.
